Exit Criteria - Continuous Enrollment

Candidates are required to be continuously enrolled in PSU INSYS World Campus coursework while working to earn our recommendation to the Pennsylvania Department of Education for issuance of a Level One Specialist in Instructional Technology certificate.

All candidates must be continuously enrolled in INSYS World Campus coursework from the time of official admission into the program until Penn State's recommendation to the Pennsylvania Department of Education for certification as a Level One Specialist in Instructional Technology is received.

Continuous enrollment in the ITSC program means that a candidate's PSU transcript must include at least one INSYS World Campus course for each and every semester from the time the candidate entered the program until the time the candidate earns PSU's recommendation to PDE for certification. In other words, a candidate commits to register for at least one three-credit INSYS World Campus course for each of the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters while in the ITSC program.

Note: Should a candidate need or elect to register for Special Education (SPLED) coursework at PSU, PSU SPLED course work can also be applied to the continuous enrollment commitment.

Candidates' must provide evidence of continuous INSYS World Campus course enrollment: 1) prior to beginning the Internship (INSYS 595) and 2) at the end of the program before a candidate can receive PSU's recommendation to PDE for certification.

A candidate who fails to continuously register for INSYS World Campus coursework from the time officially admitted into the ITSC program until the time PSU's recommendation to PDE for certification is earned and received will be dropped from the program.

The ITSC Program Director intermittently reviews the continuous enrollment status of each candidate. Should a candidate be identified as lacking continuous enrollment evidence, the candidate will be notified before being officially dropped from the ITSC program at Penn State. However, a drop action can only be stopped by providing the ITSC program with a current PSU transcript that demonstrates that the candidate has, in fact, meet the commitment to continuous PSU INSYS World Campus course enrollment.

Creating and mapping out personal plans and timelines to complete the ITSC program help candidates to display personal understandings of the continuous enrollment requirement. Candidates' personal plans are created by:

  • first, reviewing all of the web-based INSYS courses offered within the ITSC program.
  •  then, identifying the projected sequence of the courses that you plan to register for from the time you enter the program, until you receive PSU's recommendation to PDE for certification. (You will identify this sequence within the admissions application.)
  • and finally, you will create a diagram of your personal road map to ITSC program completion.
