Rationale: You recently completed competencies that were aligned with both the Association for Educational Communications and Technology's (AECT) standards and PDE's standards for the areas of "Professionalism" and "Knowing the Content." But knowledge alone isn't enough. You must now begin the important work of addressing PDE's Performance standards. Essentially, this is your opportunity to demonstrate what you can do with what you know. When working to demonstrate what you know and can do, you will improve your own performance and the performance of other professionals as well. Knowledge, organization, planning, communication, commitment, and action are critical to successful performance. While you continue to grow and develop as a professional in the field of Instructional Technology, it is important to familiarize yourself with PDE's Performance standards, identify the skills and abilities necessary for each related standard, reflect on your personal set of strengths and weaknesses, create a well-developed practicum plan and assessment system, implement your well-developed plan during an actual field experience, and engage in multiple opportunities for assessing and reflecting on the process. You are required to register for INSYS 595 - Internship as you work to complete this process. Hints: The competency set 9.01, 9.02, & 9.03 are sequential building blocks. PDE's performance standards are used as the framework for these competencies. The framework and related building blocks will also prove valuable in your future role as a Specialist in Instructional Technology. Therefore, it is important for you to take time to analyze each PDE Performance standard and then use the standards as your beginning outline when you work on each competency and ultimately towards successfully completing a supervised school experience. Note 1): You are required to have liability insurance and clearances (Act 151 and Act 34) to proceed with your practicum in a school environment. Failure to submit this information prior to the beginning of a field experience/practicum may result in your dismissal from the field experience course, INSYS 595. Note 2): You are required to review the ITSC Practicum FAQ page and also all of the information related to INSYS 595 - Internship.
Note 3): All ITSC candidates are required to register for INSYS 595 - Internship. Logically, exemptions will be granted to candidates who hold a current Pennsylvania Department of Education emergency ITS certificate. Candidates with ITS emergency certification will need to scan the PDE emergency certificate and include it in the personal web-based portfolio and then respond to competencies 9.02 & 9.03 in the student response area with the statement... "Please see emergency certificate on file" plus post the URL. A candidate with a current emergency certification, at the time that the practicum is due, is exempt from completing competencies 9.02 and 9.03 however, competency 9.01 is required to be completed independently and also to be included in the candidate's portfolio.
