1.21 Technology Assessment and Planning. Conduct a needs assessment to determine the technology needs of teachers, administrators, and other professional staff in at least one building and propose a system of software, hardware, support and maintenance sufficient to meet those needs.

Introduction

 Assessing what teachers and administrators in your building or district want to do with technology is critical. Only after a full investigation of professionals' wants and needs has been conducted can a network be designed and maintained and appropriate software identified for use.

Your Job:

  1. Use the details provided below to create a product that addresses and demonstrates mastery of this competency.
  2. Use the stepwise process listed under Your Portfolio to display the completed product in your ITSC portfolio.

    Product Details:

    • Create a product in INSYS 461 that demonstrates your understanding of Technology Assessment and Planning.
    • Describe the needs assessment process that will then become the cornerstone for designing networks, recommending and purchasing software and supporting the professionals within a building or school district.
    • Answer the following questions within your product: What do you want to know? Why do you want to know it? How will you get the information? What questions will you ask? What will you do with the information after you get it?
    • Include surveys for review.
    • Partition the information that you gathered into specific teacher roles (i.e., math, english, music, etc.), groups of other professionals (i.e., nurse, TSS, reading specialists, etc.), administration and staff.
    • Clearly detail what is and what is desired. In other words, what do the people actually do with technology and what would they like to be able to do? Do they use what is currently available? How do they use it? If, not, why not? What would they like to be abe do with technology in the future?
    • Propose a system of hardware, software, support and maintenance to meet those needs that is directly aligned with the information that you gathered.
