Introduction
The district's technology newsletter, "Educational
Technology Today", is almost ready. Your editorial needs
examples of work that students are creating using
technology. With a scanner, you can create a digital
image from the Photos taken at the Science Fair! While
scanners share similar features, which allow you to
produce identical digital images, each one uses slightly
different scanning software. As a result, when using a
scanner the best resource is the accompanying manual.
While the interface of scanning software may be
different, they request the user to make the same
choices.
- What resolution do you want to use? Higher
resolutions increase picture quality, but also
increase file size. Computer monitors will only
display images at 72dpi. So for any image used on the
Internet you only need a resolution of 72dpi.
- Do you want to scan in color or black and
white?
- Do you want to scan the entire image, or use the
selection tool to crop some of the image?
The answers to these questions will be determined by
the intended use of the image.
