Instruction
and Systemic Change
- This website
emphasizes that for change to occur teaching
needs to move "away from a model of expert
delivery of knowledge from the teacher to the
student to a model of facilitated, engaged
learning environments, where the students are
actively engaged in discovery and authentic
tasks and the teacher is more of a coach, giving
more individual attention to students as they go
about their activities and delivering
information as useful to the activities at
hand." Additional resources are
included.
Leadership
Characteristics that Facilitate School
Change
- "This paper,
a companion to two other syntheses (Boyd, 1992;
Hord, 1992), reviews the literature to determine
the characteristics that appear to facilitate or
impede the implementation of school improvement
interventions for at-risk students. In the
context of this paper, characteristics are the
personal qualities that contribute to a person's
leadership practices. This paper examines the
influence of these personal characteristics on
educational leadership."
CREATING
THE FUTURE: Perspectives on Educational
Change
- "Twenty-five
points of view come together in this compilation
of leading-edge ideas on education. Each writer
offers a unique perspective based on a rich
background of research or educational practice,
and each contributes to 'the big picture' that
is forming of a new kind of education for our
time. Considered together, their ideas are
complementary; the sum total of these brief
articles offers important implications for
educational planning and practice. We draw some
of these implications together in the
conclusion. "
